Primary Purpose of Department
The mission of Housing and Residence Life is to pledge to foster inclusive communities that enhance the academic, social and personal development of residential students. Furthermore, we strive to provide students with a variety of living environments that are clean, safe and affordable.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Specialist provides departmental leadership for training and ongoing staff development coordination for professional, graduate, and student employees. The Specialist coordinates professional and graduate staff orientation, training, and staff development as well as Desk Assistant and Resident Advisor Fall, Spring, and ongoing training. The Specialist serves as a consultant and resource to professional staff within the department in the areas of staff training/development. This position will be responsible for working with and assisting the Division of Student Affairs and the Housing and Residence Life Department with gathering research, creating reports, and all assessment efforts related to Residence Life. The Specialist is a member of the Residence Life senior management team and is responsible for providing departmental leadership to students in crisis. The Specialist reports to the Associate Director for Residence Life.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
Principal responsibilities include the planning of a comprehensive training program for Residence Education Coordinators, Loan Key Operators, Resident Advisors, and Desk Assistants in consultation with the leadership team, serving as a member of the senior management team; directly supervising a graduate student, crisis management; and other departmental/campus-wide responsibilities.
Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree,
  • Minimum of one year of full-time housing and training and development experience.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Master's Degree, Minimum of two years full-time housing and training and development experience
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and training best practices
  • Experience with CANVAS or other learning management software
  • Experience serving in on-call response and/or in crisis management
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively time manage
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
