Dartmouth Dining offers part-time hours that work with your other commitments.

Work 1st or 2nd shift hours (7am through 2.30am), up to 35 hours a week.
Choose your schedule and number of hours worked, dependent on operational needs.
Position Purpose
Under close supervision, assists with the preparation and serving of food items regularly listed on the daily menu in the dining facilities. Works in any general cooking preparation areas where needed, eg. grill, pizza, bakery, etc. Receives on-the-job training in general food service and sanitation procedures and in proper use and cleaning of kitchen equipment and machinery. Part-time, flexible schedules available.
Required Qualifications

  • No previous experience required.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift and carry objects weighing up to 30 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with standard cooking methods and procedures preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.
  • Basic understanding of cleanliness procedures and general sanitation regulations. Ability to learn proper food protection and handling procedures.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipes.
  • Ability to perform basic math and measurements.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to follow customer relations policies and procedures.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to apply customer relations procedures and policies.
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the preparation of food items. For example: Washes, peels, cuts and seeds vegetables and fruits; cleans, cuts and grinds meats, poultry and seafood; dips food items in crumbs, flour and batter to bread them; stirs and strains soups and sauces.
  • Weighs and measures designated ingredients.
  • Carries pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator. Ensures trays of food are replaced when empty. Assists customers.
  • Stores foods in designated areas, maintaining an awareness of temperature requirements and potential for food spoilage.
  • Other duties as requested.
