Description of the Department or Unit |
The Department of Media, Career Studies and Leadership Development is one of five departments in the Reich College of Education, offering programs that prepare students for employment in a wide variety of teaching, administrative and service roles, as well as employment or career advancement in business and industry. The department includes programs in Career and Technical Education; the newly formed Organizational Leadership & Learning program; Media, Technology and Learning Design; Library Science; International Leadership; and School Administration.
The new App State online BS in Organizational Leadership and Learning is a project-based program designed to meet the needs of each student. All students will engage with universal concepts that apply to every career path, such as:
- Business, leadership, and management foundations
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Career management
- Project management
- Professional learning and development
- Entrepreneurial thinking and innovative problem-solving
- Data analysis, digital literacy and the use of technology in leadership

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- Teaching
- Extensive teaching in fully online course as well as some hybrid and on-campus environments.
- Develop and deliver undergraduate courses related to leadership, professional development, project management, and data/digital literacy.
- Create and update curriculum materials to reflect advancements in the field.
- Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment that encourages critical thinking and creativity.
- Research and Scholarship
- Engage in high-impact research in areas related to organizational leadership, learning, and related areas.
- Disseminate research findings through academic journals, conference presentations, public scholarship, and/or creative products.
- Pursue external funding opportunities to support research and creative projects.
- Student Advising and Mentorship
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, guiding them in their academic and career pursuits.
- Service, Leadership, and Engagement
- Participate in departmental and institutional committees and contribute to academic program development.
- Collaborate with colleagues on innovative projects and initiatives.
- Engage with the broader academic and professional communities through outreach and service.

ABD Description |
ABD with reduction in rank and salary:
ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since
ABD will not meet the minimum requirements,
ABD will not be considered. |
