West Virginia University Cancer Institute

The West Virginia University School of Medicine, West Virginia University Cancer Institute, and the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) are seeking applications for an experienced tenure track faculty member to develop and lead an Implementation Science Center as part of the Community Engagement and Outreach Core of the WVCTSI. We are seeking applicants who will focus on implementation science principles and healthcare delivery within a growing portfolio of cancer prevention and control research. We seek a colleague who will build a program of independent research and implementation science in a multidisciplinary collaborative environment. This opportunity offers the potential for creation of highly impactful research and programs in the areas of cancer prevention and rural health.

The successful candidate would ideally have demonstrated success in research collaboration on grant-funded projects. Candidates with experience working in a collaborative, biomedical research setting, and record of extramural grant support are highly preferred. Research training is preferred in one or more of the following areas: implementation and dissemination science, practice-based research, community-engaged research, and/or care quality improvement methodology and practice.

The faculty member's academic appointment will reside in the newly established Department of Cancer Prevention and Control and rank will be based on experience and extramural funding. This position will report to Stephenie Kennedy-Rea, EdD, Chair of the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control.

Qualifications

Applicant must have:



  • A relevant doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, MD, DrPH)
  • Track record of independent, peer-reviewed publications and extramural grant funding in the area of implementation science
  • Advanced expertise in research design and methodology
  • Experience with program development and/or administration in real-world community and/or health operations settings
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Evidence of mentoring experience


Responsibilities include:



  • Developing and launching an Implementation Science Center
  • Providing day-to-day leadership for the Implementation Science Center (establishing priorities, coordinating projects and data-driven workflows, managing resources, collaborating on execution of program and grant activities, and reporting results and outcomes)
  • Conducting research and leading research teams
  • Creating and executing an implementation science research agenda focusing on rural health and cancer prevention
  • Collaborating and mentoring residents, students, staff on cancer prevention and control projects including manuscript development, data analysis, IRB submissions, and study design
  • Effectively working with the primary care clinics that constitute the West Virginia Practice-Based Research Network to develop implementation science studies
  • Developing external research support for the Implementation Science Center
  • Generating high impact peer-reviewed publications focused on cancer prevention and rural health in West Virginia
  • Assisting Cancer Institute and WVCTSI leadership in identifying and implementing strategic objectives for work in advancing dissemination, implementation, and health communication.
  • Participating in conferences, seminars, and other professional development activities to maintain and enhance expertise and professional status.
  • Collaborating with the Cancer Institute and WVCTSI Evaluation Director to assess effectiveness, impact, and reach of the Implementation Science Center
