Job Title: Case Management Intern *Unpaid Internship*

Department: Counseling and Resiliency

Reports To: Staff Member with a BSW of 2 years post experience or assigned supervisor

Intern Job Functions:

The Case Management Intern is for those seeking a bachelor's in social work or related field (Psychology). The intern will be placed within one of the programs under the Case Management or Community Based Programs such as, but not limited to First Hug, Housing and Employment, Family Support Center and/or Intake. Intern will assist with the daily functions of the department in which they are placed that are assigned by site supervisor such as, but not limited to: completing required assessments with clients for the designated program, complete all documentation on client interactions, and maintain client files. Interns will assess client's eligibility for other programs, resources, and shelter. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn about other Metropolitan Ministries Programs and be able to shadow and gain knowledge of these departments.

Essential Responsibilities:

All duties must be undertaken under the close supervision and guidance of the Case Management staff

  1. Make ethical decisions by applying the standards of the NASW Code of Ethics
  2. Become knowledgeable regarding departmental policies and procedures.
  3. Complete all training as assigned by Internship Coordinator, on-site supervisor, and school requirements.
  4. Complete pre-screenings, assessments particular to the program, and potential follow ups for clients being enrolled into the designated program
  5. Assist with outreach clients as needed with screening for Metropolitan Ministries Programs.
  6. Enter data and maintain case notes into the HMIS and other data bases as required, and ensures data required elements are up to date with real time information from intake clients.
  7. Completes all required Metropolitan Ministries paperwork in a timely manner according to established deadlines.
  8. Attend weekly supervision with site supervisor.
  9. Participate and attend agency meetings as required
  10. Update Site Supervisor of case load and client assignment needs.
  11. Maintain case notes and histories for all assigned clients.
  12. Keep confidential records according to the Code of Ethics.
  13. Maintain professional boundaries.
  14. Communicate schedule, and keep up to date with recording their hours in the proper database
  15. Become knowledgeable of community resources and agencies.
  16. Shadowing home visits with case manager in the community to assist in completing assessments, inputting notes, and maintaining files (First Hug)
  17. Assist in creating monthly budgets with clients to help them achieve their savings goals (Housing)
  18. Assist in reviewing online courses assigned to clients regarding financial wellness and housing readiness (Housing)
Requirements

Education and Experience:

Must be seeking a bachelor's degree in social work. Must be open to working with all ages and individuals experiencing homelessness. Must be willing and eager to learn about factors leading to homelessness, individuals with mental health/substance abuse issues and community resources.

Skill Requirements:

Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team framework; strong interpersonal skills; strong oral in written communication skills; dependability; demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in clients served; ability to handle job related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner; well organized and detail oriented. Must have basic interviewing & crisis management skills including, but not limited to suicide assessment & de-escalation.

Physical Requirements:

Hearing and speaking ability that allows for effective oral communication. Physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job related issues and stress.
