OSFM-Designated Campus Fire Marshal EH&S Admin Full Time 82083BR Job Summary This position serves as the recognized UCSF subject matter expert on fire and life safety in campus design and construction. Under the terms of a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University of California and Cal Fire - Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), the incumbent serves as an OSFM-Designated Campus Fire Marshal (DCFM) to act on behalf of OSFM to do specialized plan review and field enforcement work; consults with fire officials, architects, engineers, contractors, and campus staff on problems of fire and panic safety in the design, construction, and operation of buildings and facilities at UCSF. This position will guide those subordinate staff in providing such support to construction projects as well as general fire and life safety inspections; cooperates with other public agencies on mutual problems relating to fire safety; reviews reports and recommendations of field inspectors and prepares letters of instruction and recommendation to owners; conducts training meetings for field personnel; maintains records of plan reviews and inspections made; supervises personnel in following up enforcement of laws and regulations of the OSFM; trains new personnel on inspection work and enforcement and evaluates their performance; makes special field inspections with personnel in unusual or controversial problems. Receives assignments in the form of broad objectives, and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Proactively assesses fire and life safety risks, and proposes, develops, and oversees implementation of policies and procedures to assure awareness of and compliance with UCSF and regulatory requirements. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $113,500 - $258,100 (Annual Rate). Under formal Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with both the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), EH&S Fire Prevention staff perform plan review, construction inspections, existing building inspections and other work on behalf of OSFM and OSHPD, providing reviews and code enforcement on behalf of the agencies. Other EH&S staff provide expert consultation and other services related to bio-safety, chemical safety, radiation safety, workplace safety and ergonomics, industrial hygiene, environmental protection and spill response.
