Job Summary

This Supervisor is part of a dynamic care team within the Office of Population Health (OPH) Clinical Programs Pediatric Complex Care Team. This position reports to the Nurse Manager, Complex Care.

The incumbent will be a hybrid position requiring reporting on-site to various UCSF Health campuses including the OPH Brisbane office and visits to patient homes. When working from home, should be able to provide a safe and private home office environment for conducting patient outreach and UCSF business.

The Pediatric Complex Care Supervisor serves as the expert resource and liaison for the Pediatric Complex Care Team, known as the Novel Interventions in Children's Healthcare (NICH) Program. This team supports patients and families with complex or chronic health care needs and significant psychosocial vulnerabilities. The Supervisor will be responsible for overall operations of the Pediatric Complex Care program as well as achieving patient outcome measure targets. In addition, the Supervisor will ensure compliance with all deliverables of the NICH program, ensure fidelity to the NICH model of care delivery, and is responsible for ensuring all staff are following NICH guidelines. This supervisor will be required to complete the Novel Interventions in Children's Healthcare (NICH) supervisor training program and remain compliant with learned methods, which involves on-going monitoring.

This Supervisor will participate in Pediatric Complex Care leadership meetings and will work closely with the Nurse Manager, Complex Care. They will also be responsible for ensuring that any medical or psychological issue identified by the frontline team are escalated and addressed; this will be done through the NICH Medical Directors. Ultimately, this Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the Pediatric Complex Care team is operating according to specifications defined by OPH Leadership.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87,900 - $131,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Office of Population Health (OPH) leads UCSF's development of innovative care models to improve the value of care and improve health outcomes for identified populations and facilitates implementation of these care models across the health system. OPH is responsible for fulfilling UCSF Health's accountable care contracts and fostering care partnerships across a clinical network. This department is comprised of three main segments defined as (1) Clinical Programs, (2) Quality and Value Based Care, and (3) Clinically Integrated Network and ACO Management.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in related field with 5+ years experience and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills to effectively supervise staff and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with program administration.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaborations with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population of patients, families, staff, and healthcare personnel, with ability to navigate and resolve issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex administrative, clinical, and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Leadership skills to provide planning, coordination, and direction to staff, including direct, constructive feedback to supervisees in an effort to facilitate skill development and autonomy
  • Experience with data collection, compilation, and analytical processes.
  • Proficient with the Epic electronic health record.
  • Advanced interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to build effective rapport with children and families, support communication between youth and their caregivers, and aid families in communicating with local community resources/organizations and with their medical team
  • Strong knowledge of program operations, patient-scheduling systems, medical and insurance terminology, applicable information systems, patient service standards, and regulatory requirement and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
  • Knowledge of the Novel Interventions in Children's Healthcare (NICH) care delivery model.
  • Strong knowledge of practice operations, patient-scheduling systems, medical and insurance terminology, applicable information systems, patient service standards, and regulatory requirement and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.

License/Certification


  • Valid CA driver's license. Meet all Hospital Risk Management requirements, including no moving violations within one year. Must furnish proof of vehicle insurance and have reliable transportation. Must have a personal vehicle.
