Nurse Faculty - NCLEX
Hondros College of Nursing

The Nursing Faculty- NCLEX is responsible for instructing students in assigned courses, on-campus labs and/or in the clinical area according to the course plan. This person will produce ancillary materials designed to assist students in NCLEX proficiency, with particular focus on improving the NCLEX results for PN and ADN Programs in which they are assigned. The Nursing Faculty- NCLEX will be responsible for assisting other campus faculty in the analysis of the HESI data and early identification of at-risk students. This person participates in the planning and development of the curriculum of the nursing programs as well as in the implementation and evaluation of the program of study. This faculty participates as full members of Faculty Organization and Campus Curriculum Committees. As a member of Faculty Organization, Faculty members are responsible and accountable for overall program outcomes.

Student Success:



  • Promotes a positive learning environment in classroom, on-campus labs and clinical sites
  • Advises nursing students on course, program, and career issues
  • Evaluates each student's achievement and progress
  • Recommends strategies for success and tutors students to assist them in meeting course objectives
  • Refers nursing students to nursing lab for skill development as needed


Course Implementation:



  • Instructs nursing students in assigned courses, on-campus labs and/or clinical according to the course plan
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the College to assure full implementation of the curriculum
  • Reviews class syllabus that follows the designed curriculum plan and explains course requirements
  • Designs and implements teaching strategies that will assist the student in meeting course objectives
  • Actively participates in course faculty meetings across campuses to assure consistent implementation of assigned courses as written


Clinical Faculty:



  • Directs and supervises the activities of clinical faculty and teaching assistants, if utilized
  • Ensures that instructional materials covered in class are coordinated with clinical activities
  • Communicates with clinical faculty and teaching assistants to record attendance, mentor faculty, and track student performance issues
  • Holds regularly scheduled course meetings on campus with clinical faculty and teaching assistants
  • Assures minutes from meetings are on file
  • Assures clinical faculty members are implementing the clinical component of the course as written
  • Implements the clinical component of the program as follows (if applicable):

    • Establishes and communicates clinical objectives within the course framework to students, preceptor and staff at the clinical site
    • Orients nursing students to the clinical site as well as to pertinent policy and procedures
    • Plans the student clinical experience consistent with course outcomes, established clinical learning objectives and student learning needs
    • Assures student assignments are understood by students and clearly communicated to staff
    • Evaluates the student's experience, achievement and progress in relation to the clinical objectives and outcomes established for the course
    • Summarizes the data and reports findings to the student; includes completion of the clinical evaluation tools and grading of required student paperwork
    • Assigns observational experiences within the clinical day which are appropriate to meet course objectives




Program Advocate:



  • Acts an ambassador of the College at all times when interacting with colleagues, staff, students, patients and families
  • Participates in evaluative studies related to program improvement


Requirements:



  • Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university; PhD in nursing, D., DNP, or other higher credential with a concentration in nursing and/or higher education preferred.
  • Completion of an approved registered nursing program
  • Active, unencumbered license to practice nursing in the state of OH
  • At least five years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse
  • Three years teaching experience as a faculty member in a nursing program
  • Experience in a NCLEX support role and/or experience teaching a capstone, comprehensive, or program culminating course designed to prepare students for the NCLEX examination preferred

    *Ability to supervise nursing students and provide direction at a clinical site
    *Ability to troubleshoot and resolve or recommend solutions to moderately complex problems
    *Ability to coordinate student assignments
    *Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
    *Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Communication Abilities:
    *Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    *Ability to interact diplomatically with a variety of individuals at various organizational levels
  • Knowledge of Nursing:
    *Knowledge of nursing theories, standards, and practice
    *Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and ability to differentiate between LPN and RN scope of practice
    *General knowledge of teaching-learning strategies utilized in nursing education andoutcomes assessment
