Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Supervision: Lead and evaluate all Criminal Justice Institute programs and staff, ensuring compliance with FDLE, CJSTC, and College policies.

  • Program Promotion: Market and promote our programs, develop marketing materials, and represent our Criminal Justice programs at various events.

  • Student Recruitment & Advising: Recruit and advise students on curriculum and career opportunities, assist with registration, and manage disciplinary actions as needed.

  • Operational Management: Approve class schedules, manage facilities, and ensure the safety and accessibility of instructional materials and equipment.

  • Instructor Oversight: Schedule and evaluate instructors, ensuring high-quality education delivery.

  • Curriculum Development: Ensure instructional materials and facilities are safe and operational, update course curricula, and evaluate textbooks and syllabi.

  • Student Assessment: Develop evaluation instruments to measure student outcomes and gather feedback on instructional effectiveness.

  • Certification Preparation: Prepare academy recruits for state certification exams and oversee graduation ceremonies.

  • Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate records and prepare required reports for various agencies.

  • Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets, oversee equipment purchases, and maintain inventory.

  • Grant Development: Research and develop grant proposals to support program initiatives.

  • Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with local criminal justice agencies and participate in professional organizations.

Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position provides administrative oversight of the Criminal Justice Institute. Duties include developing the Criminal Justice degree curriculum; overseeing the Criminal Justice Institute certification programs; and ensuring the training and placement of qualified program graduates.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides supervision, evaluation, and leadership over all Criminal Justice Institute programs and staff; ensures that all operate in accordance with FDLE, CJSTC, and College rules and policies.

  • Markets and promotes programs; develops and maintains the program brochures and other marketing materials in coordination with the College; and represents IRSC Criminal Justice programs at events.

  • Recruits and advises students on both curriculum and career awareness; provides assistance in the registration process when necessary; and oversees and administers appropriate disciplinary action for conduct or other policy violations in accordance with College and CJSTC policy.

  • Approves class schedules, facilities reservations, instructional materials, and supplies.

  • Oversees the scheduling and instructor assignments for all Criminal Justice Institute programs; observes and evaluates all instructors that teach in the Institute.

  • Ensures instructional materials, equipment, and facilities are operational, safe, and accessible; ensures the evaluation of courses and the overall program curricula and updates occur as needed; and evaluates textbooks, outlines, and syllabi for courses and update as needed.

  • Develops evaluation instruments to measure the student's attainment of the course objectives and program learning outcomes; allows for students to provide input into the effectiveness of the delivery of instruction.

  • Ensures the preparation of academy recruits for the Correctional and Law Enforcement State Officer Certification Examination; oversees graduation ceremonies for all Law Enforcement and Corrections Basic Recruit academies.

  • Ensures files and records are kept in accordance with College and the CJSTC polices and standards.

  • Prepares reports required by the College, state, Department of Education and Accreditation review agencies, and Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

  • Develops and manages the Criminal Justice Institute budgets; oversees the selection and purchase process of equipment for instructional purpose; ensures an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies is conducted for the Criminal Justice Institute.

  • Researches and develops grant proposals.

  • Maintains positive working relationships between the College and local criminal justice agencies; serves on various committees and professional organizations.

  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's Degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field; three (3) years of experience in the management and delivery of education and/or training programs for criminal justice personnel; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

  • Valid Florida driver's license.

  • Knowledge of the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) rules and regulations and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) policies and procedures pertaining to officer standards and training.

  • Knowledge of criminal justice programs and post-secondary elements of teaching and advising.

  • Skill in organizing, mentoring, problem solving, motivating others, and prioritizing.

  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications.

  • Ability to apply good judgment, develop a budget, and be people oriented.

  • Ability to develop strategies to recruit, retain, graduate, and place students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as light work involving lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
