Starting salary up to $40.87/hour and a competitive total compensation package!*

This is an onsite, 20-hour-per-week position, and there are two schedule options you can choose from:
  • Option 1. A set Monday through Friday, 4 hours per day that are scheduled between 10 am and 5 pm. OR
  • Option 2. A set Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule during which the hours per day are scheduled between 9 am and 5 pm.

The Human Resources Department (County HR) is a team of 60+ employees who provide human resources and risk management services to 32 agencies, departments, and special districts that employ 4,700+ positions. These diverse services include benefits, classification plan management, recruitment and examination, countywide training, employee and labor relations, equal employment opportunity, HR information systems, occupational health and safety, risk management, and workplace violence prevention. An integral part of the HR team, our Disability Management (DM) Unit oversees the administration of leaves of absence (catastrophic, medical, military, occupational/non-occupational, short/long-term, etc.), reasonable accommodations, job-related medical screening tests, and Job Demands Analysis. They also are responsible for temporary transitional duty assignments, the County's self-insured workers' compensation and long-term disability programs, and reporting statistical claims. When you join our team, you will work alongside a full-time Technician, three Analysts, and the Disability Programs Manager, and be responsible for:
  • Reviewing and entering medical notes and leave paperwork into Claims Management Software
  • Processing Workers' Compensation Claims paperwork
  • Assisting DM and Workers' Compensation Analysts with case management by conducting research and preparing documentation
  • Running reports, interpreting data, and recommending actions to Analysts and Managers
  • Archiving old employee medical files and ensuring the integrity of paperless data

Prior experience with workers' compensation, reasonable accommodation, and employee leaves of absence such as the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), California Pregnancy Disability Leave (CPDL), or other areas related to absence management would be beneficial but are not required. Intermediate-level Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, vlookup, etc.), or basic Excel skills with the ability to quickly advance your learning to the intermediate level through training is also desirable.

We are recruiting for a part-time (20 hours per week) HR Technician position in County HR. This employment list may also be used to fill part-time or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, academic course work in human resources administration, public administration, business administration, management, accounting, political science, economics, statistics, English composition, psychology or closely related courses and one year of full-time experience performing varied and complex clerical work, related to human resources, including explaining policies to the general public and/or internal customers.

License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: basic human resources principles and procedures; personnel and payroll records and documentation; arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages, fractions), administrative techniques and principles of organization; techniques and practices of research methodology, data collection, and preliminary analysis; report writing; application and use of basic statistics; interview techniques sufficient to obtain information related to employment; written and oral communications, including language mechanics, syntax and English composition; modern office methods and procedures; database, spreadsheet, word processing applications, and presentation software, including basic methods of graphic presentations.

Ability to: read, understand, and explain human resources policies, procedures, and rules; communicate clearly and effectively in front of groups and on a one-on-one basis; learn effective interviewing techniques; exercise good judgment; collect, compile and analyze qualitative and quantitative data; understand and explain laws, regulations and policies governing program operations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, clients, and the public; organize and prioritize work assignments; use and understand common database, spreadsheet and word processing applications; learn specialized computer applications.
