Business Development Officer I is responsible for soliciting new business to the bank with a focus on specific department products/services; i.e. Specialty Lending, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, etc., as well as cross-selling other lines of business to existing customers. This position is responsible for identifying correct products/services and proposing knowledgeable solutions for clients to enhance their business or portfolios.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Solicits new banking relationships for the bank with a focus on applicable department products/services.
  • Makes cold calls to prospective customers, generates prospect lists, and cultivates referral sources.
  • Manages personal or commercial business relationships and remains the first point of contact for customers and ensure growth of business for the applicable department.
  • Cross-sells new and existing customers across all lines of business that Simmons Bank offers.
  • Ensures appropriate handoff of new business and appropriate follow up for effective retention.
  • Participates in and represents Simmons Bank at various professional, civic, and community activities.
  • Assists, as needed, by guiding customers with processes for optimizing sales/profits while minimizing any losses to the bank.
  • Responsible for staying current on all industry issues and regulations applicable to the duties of the position.
  • Ensures that all departmental documents and activities are performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures as applicable to this position, including completion of required compliance training.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, general business correspondence, and/or journals, or government regulations.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial report and/or legal documents.
  • Ability to write procedures, routine reports, and business correspondence.
  • Ability to respond in writing to customer complaints, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Education and/or Experience

  • HS Diploma/GED or
  • BS/BA degree in Business or Finance preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in applicable business development industry

Computer Skills

  • MS Office programs.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Applicable designations for specific department(s) preferred such as:
  • CTFA, CFP, CPA and bar admission for Trust Department

Other Qualifications (including physical requirements)

  • Self-starter and highly motivated
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
