Job Summary

Shares responsibility for cataloging, researching, interpreting, publishing, and caring for the collection, including the full range of activities related to The Wolfsonian's ambitious exhibition program, as well as the documentation, care, and development of the collection. Serves as advocate and spokesperson for the collection in the museum, on campus, and beyond while interacting with a wide variety of constituencies.

  • Develops exhibitions in a team setting, including interpretative planning, budgeting, selecting objects from the collection or on loan, preparing labels and catalogs.
  • Serves as part of the team that will reconceive and reinstall the permanent collections galleries.
  • Promotes the use of the collection by providing reference and interpretative services to the museum's various constituencies, conducting tours, delivering public lectures, presenting academic papers, and publishing research.
  • Participates in the Acquisition Committee and carries out research and communications associated with proposed donations.
  • Collaborates on a wide variety of institutional programs and policy development activities, including public programs and events, strategic planning, and fundraising.
  • Serves as an advocate and spokesperson for the collection in the museum, on campus, and beyond.
  • Travels regionally, nationally and internationally as required to complete curatorial tasks for research, collections/exhibitions development and to represent the institution and its collection.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline and three (3) years' experience in related field.
Desired Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD degree in art history, design history, architectural history, history, or material culture studies.
  • Museum curatorial experience with a track record of innovative exhibitions, publications, and professional engagement.
  • Preferred candidates will have reading knowledge of a foreign language related to one of The Wolfsonian's collecting areas (e.g., German, French, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish).
