Project Manager, Strategic Philanthropic Initiatives - University Advancement

Carnegie Mellon is enjoying its most productive fundraising years in its history, surpassing the initial fundraising goal for its $2 billion Make Possible campaign more than 18 months ahead of schedule. University Advancement (UA) supports the entire CMU community in building relationships with key constituencies and securing the financial resources the university needs to continue its ascent. As the division grows, we are searching for a Project Manager, Strategic Philanthropic Initiatives, to join the team for a 6-month assignment. This is an exciting opportunityfor someone whothrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategic Philanthropic Initiatives, this position will be responsible for providing extensive support to the (Interim) Vice President for University Advancement and Senior Associate Vice President, Development in managing relationships with a portfolio of the university's highest profile donors, as well as managing special projects in alignment with CMU's advancement mission.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with (Interim) Vice President for University Advancement and Senior Associate Vice President, Development to increase their efficiency and effectiveness as a frontline fundraiser, tracking, prompting, and following up on next steps with internal and external constituencies, while identifying and/or developing new and creative approaches and strategies.

  • Utilizing data, research, reports, and other resources and tools in new and traditional ways to help prioritize and optimize prospect qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.

  • Proactively providing key insights and recommendations for prospect strategy development and moves management and managing the drafting and updating of written prospect strategies.

  • Monitoring and ensuring the accuracy of prospect management-related data and other information in University Advancement's database of record.

  • Collaborating with relevant team members for the drafting and finalization of select prospect briefings, profiles, and reports for university leaders; internal presentations; prospect correspondence; fundraising proposals and gift agreements; and other documents, ensuring that the highest quality products are created within required time parameters.

  • Overseeing planning and coordination of certain special events and campus visits by prospects, including regular contact and meetings with prospects whenever needed.

  • Managing and completing a variety of special projects requiring high-level skills in data analysis, writing/editing, and collaborative problem solving and project management (e.g. managing Deans' Boards member nomination process, assist with requesting and generating profiles and briefings for select executive leadership meetings, etc.)

  • Working effectively with partners within University Advancement and across the university to accomplish goals.

  • Providing the team with a significant depth of knowledge about Carnegie Mellon University/higher education, fundraising, and alumni relations.

  • Making appropriate editorial decisions based on university style guidelines, determining appropriate sources of data and information for a variety of projects.

  • Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of correspondence, proposals, and reports for prospects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • 5-8 years of project management skills required.

    • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Additional Information:

  • Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in-office presence X days a week.

  • This is a full time, exempt position based in Pittsburgh, PA.

  • Fixed Term: This is a fixed-term position with an estimated duration of 6 months.
