Job Summary

The GradSphere Platform Developer is a key contributor to the development, maintenance, and optimization of GradSphere, the automated business process management system at UC Davis Graduate Studies. The Platform Developer will focus on designing user-friendly front-end solutions while collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that technical enhancements align with business objectives. Responsibilities include front-end UI/UX design, conducting user research, and implementing both manual and automated testing frameworks to improve user experience. Additionally, the position provides DevOps and database management support to the Lead Platform Developer, ensuring application stability, security, and performance. As the primary contact for technical support, the Platform Developer will take initiative in handling user requests, troubleshooting issues, and clearly communicating system changes. By emphasizing user experience optimization, this role will work closely with the GradSphere team and the Information and Educational Technology (IET) team to meet key performance indicators and enhance user satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience in front-end UI/UX design and development; ability to translate user requirements into effective and user-friendly design solution.
  • Familiarity with database management, DevOps practices, and version control systems.
  • Experience with user testing, including developing testing frameworks and executing automated tests.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to independently analyze and troubleshoot technical issues. Ability to use a ticket management system (e.g., ServiceNow) to provide user support.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across diverse teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience documenting system processes and providing end-user support or training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Appian or other business process management platforms.
  • Experience working in higher education or with academic business processes.
  • Experience working with JSON for data interchange, including parsing, generating, and manipulating JSON objects in the context of API interactions and application development.
  • Knowledge of information security best practices, particularly within an academic environment.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data modeling and querying relational databases, with experience in designing and optimizing database schemas, writing complex queries, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Strong understanding of HTTP protocols and web service communication, including the ability to work with RESTful APIs, handle GET/POST requests, manage headers, and troubleshoot HTTP-related issues.

Work Environment

  • First 30 days in office and then hybrid schedule optional as approved by supervisor. Division flexible/hybrid schedule available as approved by the Vice Provost/Dean. Work occasional overtime including evenings, nights, and weekends. May be required to work in an open and/or shared office environment with multiple interruptions.
