Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Gillings Research Unit supports the school's research enterprise by: * Helping researchers identify funding opportunities and research resources. * Facilitating team science and research collaborations across campus. * Supporting proposal development. * Providing workshops and training opportunities to the Gillings research community. * Tracking research metrics and public health research impact. * Assisting researchers as they navigate research compliance.
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the pre-award team member for the Gillings School of Global Public Health. This position will be responsible for the pre-award process for assigned units within the school, with the ultimate responsibility for all proposal processing and interactions with the University's Office of Sponsored Research ( OSP) regarding proposal development, submittal, and pre-award contract discussions. The individual in this position will have a strong working knowledge of all administrative aspects of their assigned unit. Initially, this individual will provide support to several centers within the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering.Expertise is expected to include a larger variety of sponsors from Federal, State, Non-Profit, International, Private, Foundation and International agencies. This incumbent takes the leadership to establish consistent internal working processes, SOPs, streamline communications with OSP, Conflict of Interest Office, Technology Transfer Office, IRB, IACUC. Provides policy guidance and assistance with all aspects of proposal development, administrative forms, sponsor-required certifications and representations, and compliance requirements. Complete sponsored related applications for submission, while ensuring accuracy and deadlines are met.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Entry-level with Masters; or Bachelors and 0-2 yrs experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must have experience with grant proposal processing and working knowledge of the pre-award processes required for Federal, Private, Foundation and State.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in post award accounting. Experience with UNC-CH specific programs such as Connect Carolina, OSP programs eg. Ramses, Infoporte and Peoplesoft. Direct experience in using grant submission portals including Cayuse, Assist, Ramses, and training grants related systems preferred.
