Administrator - School Leader Recruitment & Selection

Manages district-wide recruitment, selection, placement, and community engagement of all principals and assistant principals, including candidate sourcing, administering of career assessment days, school leader placement, onboarding and offboarding.


Essential Functions



  • Develops and implements school leader recruitment tactics, including creating promotional material and presentations, conducting information sessions and recruitment fair events, liaising with partners, posting broadly, and direct contact with candidates
  • Coordinates screening of school leader applicants, determines eligibility, collects work history, education, certification, and leadership/supervisory experience
  • Searches for qualified school leaders, using databases, networking, social media, cold calls, recruiting firms, and employee referrals
  • Support chiefs, executive directors, and external partners in developing leadership pipeline strategies
  • Manages district-wide recruitment, selection and placement of principals and assistant principals
  • Manages the implementation and logistics of the Principal and Assistant Principal assessment centers, ensuring valid and reliable evidence collection on the Leadership Framework competencies
  • Provides counsel to executive directors on principal selection, and workplan development
  • Provides counsel to external partners and operators, offering sourcing and selection strategies, workplan development, assistance with formulating detailed job descriptions, and posting
  • Works with the pre-employment, compensation, certification, and hiring managers to develop comprehensive orientation and onboarding plans for school-leaders
  • Designs and facilitates professional learning experiences for principal applicants partnering with executive directors, to support strategic leadership placement/matches, i.e. Meet & Greets, networking events, etc.
  • Tracks statistics and metrics for assigned vacancies/surpluses, providing status reports to senior management
  • Orients, trains, and advises school community stakeholders on principal selection process/protocols, to include, but not limited to, interviewing strategies, crafting and synthesizing principal profiles, and survey execution
  • Facilitates school community and principal interviews for principal for ILED and Chief consideration
  • Establishes positive working relationships with all employees, department administrators, peer organizations and representatives from other school districts
  • Prepares and monitors progression of the PEP tracker for all school leader board appointments, to include the collection of board materials, processing of school leader data changes, location changes, and transfers as applicable
  • Composes and drafts correspondences and reports for district senior leadership
  • Prepares and oversees the maintenance of school-leader files, procedures, correspondences and filing systems
  • Screens and handles requests and inquiries as deemed appropriate; processes sensitive and confidential information
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board's policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, education, business administration or a related field
  • Five years of experience for school leader recruitment and selection
  • Teaching experience in a K-12 setting may be substituted for up to two years of the experience requirement
  • Knowledge of the K-12 education environment preferred
  • Technical knowledge, skill, and use of judgment in the application of the principles, practices, and techniques of personnel recruitment, examination, selection, and placement
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal service to include customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize, organize tasks in order to efficiently and effectively accomplish assigned and self-generated tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to communicate with people outside the organization, to represent the organization to colleges and universities, applicants, community leaders and members
  • Proficiency in the use of technical computer applications, including MS Word, EXCEL, Power Point, and a human capital information system such as Oracle, People Soft, or similar software
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification desired
