Job Description Summary: |
The Department of Prevention and Community Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University is recruiting a Research Associate to play a key role in research related to health equity and work across multiple research projects and conduct qualitative interviews.
The ideal candidate will have strong academic training in qualitative research methods, with experience in designing and conducting in-depth interviews and other forms of qualitative data collection. This person will work within Dr. Dangerfield's Prevention Research and Innovations In Sexual Epidemiology (
PRIISE) lab and be critical in the execution of several research studies in various phases of development. This lab focuses on
HIV/
STI prevention with particular emphasis on populations disproportionately affected by health disparities.
Our research:
- Includes a broad range of methodological approaches (e.g., secondary data analyses, longitudinal studies, qualitative and quantitative research);
- Focuses on a broad range of multilevel influences (e.g., individual, interpersonal, community-level, policy);
- Addresses sexual health equity for racial and sexual minority groups
The Research Associate will:
- Be responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring high ethical standards in all research activities.
- Independently carry out research activities such as recruitment and engaging participants from diverse populations, building rapport with different communities, and ensuring that all research is conducted with cultural competence and sensitivity.
- Use quantitative and qualitative methods to collect, and analyze data and interprets results
- Compile results and support the preparation of documentation of outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a master's degree and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Strong research methodology training, particularly in qualitative methods is highly desired. (e.g., interviews, ethnographic research)
- Proficiency in qualitative data analysis software (e.g.,NVivo, ATLAS.ti) and the ability to synthesize findings into clear, actionable reports is preferred.
- Experience with literature reviews and synthesizing academic research is desired.
- Familiarity with interview protocols is preferred.
- Strong active listening skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse interviewees.
- Sensitivity to ethical issues in prevention research.
- Ability to manage and multitask across projects.
- Knowledge of IRB (Institutional Review Board) processes and ethical guidelines for conducting human subjects research, along with data privacy and confidentiality requirements when handling sensitive information from interview participants is strongly desired.
- Strong organizational skills, cultural competence, and effective communication are preferred for success in this position.
